TEPCO has not always been straightforward on the actual situation so take this release for what it is. I check the radiation monitors in Japan and the U.S. on a regular basis and there has been no unusual event in recent days to indicate a pending explosion. There are, however radioactive elements being emitted into the atmosphere which suspend and drift then fall as rain and snow here in the U.S. I am inclined, at this point, to believe this steam is from rainwater which can now be seen as condensation in the cold air but must also express again that even though this is not an emergent problem it is definitely a chronic issue. Fukushima is causing large releases of radioactive materials into the environment EVERY DAY. Currently the technology does not exist to stop it. An actual fix is likely decades away. TEPCO talks now about cleaning out the tunnels to lessen the releases however this is reliant on developing robotic devices that do not yet exist. They need devices that can withstand the enormously toxic radioactive environment without frying the circuitry. TEPCO has tried and failed at developing this technology several times and this is the reason the international community needs more involvement in the process. Finally, TEPCO lies...all the time. They are profit driven, not people driven and only the bottom line counts. For information on why TEPCO, like so many other corporations behave in such a prevaricative psychopathic manner I recommend watching "The Corporation" To a corporation you are simply collateral damage and your life simply has a price tag attached.
Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2014
Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Jan 03,2014)Steam emanating from the top of Unit 3 Reactor Building indicates no abnormality
FUKUSHIMA, January 3, 2014 -Unit 3 Reactor Building at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, where steam continues to be confirmed at the top, is monitored 24/7 as well as other reactors, and indicates no abnormality, Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) announced today.
1. Generally, steam is generated when warm, moist air meets low-temperature, high-humidity air and falls below the dew-point temperature.
2. Water particles generated by saturation become visible as a steam.
3. The source of the aforementioned steam is considered to be evaporated water from rainfall etc. around the relatively hot PCV, emerging from the shield plug and becoming steam.
